It was designed specifically to detect the notorious Samsung eMMC "Brickbug" vulnerability (affecting specific Mylg9p and M8G2YA flash memory chips found in devices like the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Nexus). When users attempted to wipe data or flash custom kernels on affected hardware, a buggy firmware command would permanently corrupt the internal storage controller, hard-bricking the phone.
